Dallas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. It is the most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, which is the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. It has many amenities that make it a desirable place for older adults to live:

  1. Healthcare Facilities: Dallas is home to numerous healthcare facilities, including hospitals, medical centers, and specialized clinics. The city has a robust healthcare system that can cater to the healthcare needs of older adults.

  2. The Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) is the department under the umbrella of the Community Council of Greater Dallas responsible for planning, advocating, coordinating resources, and providing services for seniors (persons 60+) and their caregivers in the Dallas County area.

  3. Affordable Cost of Living: Dallas generally has a lower cost of living compared to many other major cities in the United States. This can make it more affordable for older adults, especially those on fixed incomes, to find housing and access necessary services.

  4. Transportation: Dallas has a comprehensive transportation system that includes public transportation options such as buses and light rail. This can make it easier for older adults to navigate the city and access different areas without relying solely on private vehicles.

  5. Diverse Community: Dallas is a diverse and multicultural city with a welcoming community. The city offers opportunities for older adults to engage with people from different backgrounds, participate in cultural events, and enjoy a sense of community.

I think the public transportation system leaves a lot to be desired. The surrounding communities in Dallas/Fort Worth have not all voted in to Dallas Area Rapid Transit. The system has made some improvements over the years, but we do not have the advantages of a huge city like New York City, New York. Our system was planned and developed differently.
The education system is good in my opinion. We have a lot of colleges and universities. Folks can take free classes at the public library. An individual could learn English as a second language or complete their GED through the public library.
I do not think the city is always very walkable. The crossing signals do not always work. The city does not always have sidewalks. I walk around my neighborhood a lot.
Healthcare is available. I have a major hospital within walking distance. Most of my doctors are within walking distance.
I am not sure what livability means. An individual with the means can get a handy man or woman to make adaptations to property to age in place in their homes. Caregivers can be hired for home health or custodial care if the individual had the means to hire private duty caregivers.
Dallas has a good community for spiritual, cultural, and cognitive activities. Individuals can find churches, synagogues, and mosques. Other religious faiths have religious centers. I live within walking or cycling distance of the Jewish Community Center. Dallas has a thriving Arts scene. I went to an Orpheus Chamber concert last night. Dallas has book clubs at the library and at other organizations. Individuals can go to lectures.
