Providence is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Rhode Island and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. It was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams, a religious exile from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He named the area in honor of "God's merciful Providence" which he believed was responsible for revealing such a haven for him and his followers to settle. The city is situated at the mouth of the Providence River at the head of Narragansett Bay. Providence was one of the first cities in the country to industrialize and became noted for its textile manufacturing and subsequent machine tool, jewelry, and silverware industries. Today, the city of Providence is home to eight hospitals and seven institutions of higher learning which have shifted the city's economy into service industries, though it still retains some manufacturing activity. The city was once nicknamed the "Beehive of Industry"; it began rebranding itself as the "Creative Capital" in 2009 to emphasize its educational resources and arts community. The city is the third most populous city in New England after Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts.

I don't necessarily base being age-friendly on the geographical location but the cultural significance of families and community. I come from a family and cultural that gives elders the utmost respect. So, I suppose one can say that cultural upbringing in a certain community is more important than a physical location.

No matter what the people in my neighborhood help each other out when we are in need whether they know us personally or not it's a everyday face

I think this place is very age friendly because there are all types of ages that make up our city. There isn't just one age group, there's multiple and races as well. I've never seen anyone treat in this community with disrespect. When school is out and kids are crossing, cars allow them to cross and aren't rude about it. I do see different vans that transport people or buses with kids and for the most part people do respect those vehicles when they are at a stop and kids have to cross, or someone has to get out of the transpiration vehicle to get home. With education I feel all ages are excepted and people to get your education. There all types of school's in Providence, there are elementary school's, middle school's, high school's and colleges.
