Rockville, MD is a wonderful place to raise a family but much more difficult for us as we grow older. Cars are essential since vital services are distributed widely across the city and county. Public transit is fair, at best, and was largely shut down when most needed during the pandemic. And while the community is very accepting, there are no services whatsoever (medical or otherwise) for LGBT+ elders. None. Zero. Nor for those living and aging with HIV. Accessing those requires a long commute to DC or Baltimore, either of which takes 90+ minutes one way by public transit if even possible.
