Lyttonsville is a historically diverse community dating back to before the civil war. Local historians believe that it was one of the most Southern free-black communities in the nation!

Today, the community remains highly diverse with excellent modern conveniences. Two elementary schools are in walking distance, a new middle school is about to open in the neighborhood, and families have an option between two high schools within the excellent Montgomery County school system.

At the center of the community is the Caufield Community Center and Park, The Center was recently build and upgraded. The park includes two playing fields and two playgrounds. As of 2023, all county citizens have free access to all community centers!

The community includes the regional transportation depot and thus had good public transportation.

At least seven house of worship are in or walking distance of the community.
