San Antonio, officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh most populous city in the United States and the second most populous city in both Texas and the Southern United States.

Every day in San Antonio, seniors, 60 years of age and older are participating in an exciting array of programs and services specifically designed for older adults. Our comprehensive senior centers and nutrition sites are located across the city and are open Monday to Friday throughout the year. Whether you are interested in joining us for a midday meal, some fun group exercise, a computer class or even meeting a friend or two, we welcome you!  The Department of Human Services, Senior Services Division helps San Antonio’s multi-generational senior community lead active, independent and engaged lives through comprehensive nutrition, wellness, education and more!

Lots of opportunities for seniors

I would say age friendly. Baby boomers are aging. Unfortunately, at a rapid pace. There are gracious people in this city. Very family oriented. But on the flip side, we have women who lost their way..and it's not pretty..overdose and alcoholics who passed away..it is sad..for they were my close friends....they were both gracious.

Lack of public transportation, no senior communities close by.

How did Texas earn the grade of B? We examined the state taxes based on how age friendly they are. Texas has a state sales tax of 6.25%. Of particular interest is that Texas does not have taxes on social security. There are no estate taxes. There are no taxes imposed on inheritance. Texas has an effective property tax rate of 1.86%. Weighing these taxes and other taxes most likely to impact the aging population is how Texas earned its state tax grade of B.
