One of the best cities to live in for things do. Great transportation system. Still, this city is anything but affordable. If you are well, can get around, then you'll love the convenience of everything here. I would hesitate to rate the overall friendliness and companionship with the people here as I have been places where there is far more neighbors and people to get to know and relate with.
Very little chance at any employment after age 60
Lots of activities but over priced
Outstanding public transit all night long and weekends. Offers senior fare discount. Lots of activities. Cost of living is very, very high.
All those city features that make life do-able for older adults are present here, including buildings that you can enter and exit in a motorized wheelchair. The big drawback is high cost of living.
Love it, love it!! Cost of living it not bad, but would like to see more discounts for senior citizens. There are fewer jobs for people over the age of 65,such as Retirement Jobs. Who would take a job as a home care attendant, that is too physical for someone over the age of 65, in fact that is ridiculous!!! Education is a much better option to consider, as you can be accepted at almost all colleges. Transportation is very good here, buses, with reclining steps and ramps, plus the discount fares. Now most subways have elevators to use instead of the steps, love it!! Lastly, community engagement is great, from the senior citizens centers, to the YMCA, movie discounts and meal discounts in some restaurants, but not many.

Excellent public transportation, walkability, and health care facilities. Main downside of NYC is high cost of living. For those living in rent-stabilized buildings and seniors taking advantage of SCRIE (Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption) program, NYC can be much more affordable. Secondary disadvantages of NYC are noise and population density. A good white noise machine is recommended, as well as avoiding rush-hour traveling.
I couldn't give an accurate opinion on some of the categories (community engagement and education for instance); I gave it my best guess.
