Alexandria is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 139,966, and in 2016, the population was estimated to be 155,810. Located along the western bank of the Potomac River, Alexandria is approximately 7 miles (11 km) south of downtown Washington
The Commission on Aging (COA) serves as the principal advocate for issues relating to aging and promotes the implementation of the Older Americans Act and other age-pertinent laws and policies in Alexandria and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Commission advances programs and services that address the needs of older Alexandrians, especially for (but not exclusively) low-income citizens.

The City of Alexandria Old Town Neighborhood is very walkable, dog-friendly, age-friendly, affluent and host to a variety of shops, historical sites, restaurants and small businesses.
